DIRECTIONS
By Road:
Exit the M6 motorway at junction 38. At the roundabout a few hundred yards from the motorway exit, go straight across on the A685 signposted ‘Kirkby Stephen’. After 1.5 miles from the roundabout on the A685, take the exit to the left. It is the B6261.
[This is the first exit to the left on the A685 after the roundabout just by the motorway.]
After 0.85 mile on the B6261, [after you have crossed the river, gone up a hill, down a hill and up a hill once more] there is a fork in the road where the B6261 forks to the left. Take the right hand fork on the smaller road [there is a sign ‘Fawcett Mill & Fawcett Mill Fields’].
After 100 yards take a right hand turn into a gated [usually open] gritted car park entrance. Pass straight through this car park [owned by our neighbours] down the gravelled drive and through another gated [usually open] entrance straight ahead. This passes immediately at the back of Fawcett Mill cottage building and opens out onto a car park turning circle immediately adjacent to the side of the cottage. There is room for 5 to 7 cars to park here.
By Train:
There is a frequent service on the West Coast London to Scotland main train line from both Oxenholme /Kendal Station [14 miles] or Penrith Station [18 miles]. Most long distance trains stop at both these stations with direct services to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, the South West and London. [3 hours from London to Oxenholme]. There are taxi ranks at both stations; more at Oxenholme than at Penrith. Whilst the distance is shorter from Kendal, Penrith Station is much closer to the M6 than Oxenholme.
There is also now a regular scheduled train service on the recently reopened scenic Settle - Carlisle train line connecting Leeds, Settle, Kirkby Stephen [with the station just outside the town on the west side just 9 miles from Fawcett Mill] , Appleby & Carlisle.
Airports:
Manchester and Liverpool Airports are both approximately 90 miles and Glasgow and Edinburgh approximately 135 miles. There is a direct train service from Oxenholme Station to Manchester Airport.
